The Anamorphic Illusions of Julian Beever

Pastel Illustration

Julian Beever is a pavement artist from the U.K. His work in general is amazing but what’s more incredible are the “anamorphic illusion” renderings he produces on walkways throughout the U.K., France, The Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Australia and the U.S.

Anamorphic illusion images are drawn using a form of distortion that when viewed (or photographed) at a specific angle look like they are part of the scenery around them. The effect is wild, but artists will appreciate the work involved in distorting the image, shading and finishing it so that it appears “correct” at the specific angle and “feels” like part of its environment.
