Missy Grooming
After an emotionally draining day yesterday with the loss of our beloved dog, I'm actively moving forward with fond memories of her that bring a smile to my face.
One that helped shift my career 10 years ago was the poodle story I recounted to my supervisor when I was interviewed. Here it is, based on my memory...
"We had adopted a standard poodle recently. She came with a huge pompom at the top of her head."
(Here is where I draw a picture of Missy - in a job interview, very unique - on the whiteboard. It kind of looked like the picture I recreated here. I then continue...)
"None of us wanted to walk a dog with all this 'froofiness'."
(As I'm talking, I'm actively making the pom pom larger and larger, greatly exaggerating the size of the top knot. The supervisor begins laughing, that's a good sign.)
"So we CUT it off."
(Here's where I take the whiteboard eraser and give the drawing of Missy a flattop. With this animated removal and visual of a dog with a flat top now has the supervisor rolling.)
Once he stops laughing, he looks at me and asks:
"When can you start?"
That was almost 12 years ago, and to this day, I think of how Missy inadvertently helped me get my current job.
I'll miss you, sweet and sassy Missy. You’ll always have a special place in my heart.
