People Are Talking About the MacOS 26 Menu Icons

Do we really need a slew of icons in our Mac menus now? Is this just another example of change because we can't think of any more useful updates to macOS? As an old Mac UI/UX guy who followed the Macintosh Human Interface Guidelines back in the day (that's page 72 from my 1992 edition above), I'm feeling cranky about this.
